The Daily Routine for
Spiritual Success

Every student must incorporate the following routine on a daily basis. In addition to these, try to keep your heart attached to Allah ﷻ at all times, and maintain a constant communication with your Shaykh.

Doing so consistently will lead to rapid spiritual progress, insha'Allah.

REPENTANCE

Recite the following in the morning and the evening, 100 times each.

أسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبي مِنْ كُلِ ذَنبٍ وَأتُوبُ إلَيهِ

Astaghfirullaha rabbi min kulli dhambin wa ‘atubu ilayh

"I seek forgiveness from my Lord for every sin and to Him I turn (in repentance)."

Allah ﷻ instructs in the Holy Qur'an:

وَيٰقَومِ استَغفِرُوا رَبَّكُم ثُمَّ تُوبُو ا اِلَيهِ ۝

"O my people, seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance." (Chapter 11 Verse 52)

SALUTATIONS UPON THE BELOVED PROPHET ﷺ

Recite the following in the morning and the evening, 100 times each.

اللَّهُم صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وعَلَى آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَ بَارِكْ وَ سَلِّم

Allāhumma salli alā sayyidinā Muhammad wa alā āli sayyidinā Muhammad wa bārik wa salim

"O Allah send salutations upon our guide Muhammad, and the family of our guide Muhammad, and bless them and send upon them peace."

Allah ﷻ instructs in the Holy Qur'an:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا ۝

“Surely, Allah and His angels send blessings to the Prophet. O you who believe, do pray Allah to bless him, and send your Salām (prayer for his being in peace) to him in abundance.” (Chapter 33 Verse 56)

MURAQABA

At least twice a day for half an hour, disconnect yourself from anything material, sit down, and meditate. Imagine that Allah’s mercy is descending upon your heart, darkness is leaving your heart, and that your heart is repeatedly calling out, “Allah! Allah! Allah!”.

Allah ﷻ instructs in the Holy Qur'an:

وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ تَضَرُّعاً وَخِيفَةً وَدُونَ الْجَهْرِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ بِالْغُدُوِّ وَالآصَالِ وَلاَ تَكُن مِّنَ الْغَافِلِينَ ۝

“Remember your Lord in your heart with humility and awe, and without speaking loudly, in mornings and evenings, and do not be among the heedless.” (Chapter 7 Verse 205)

LESSON ONE

CONNECTION WITH YOUR SHAYKH

Maintain consistent communication with your teacher and, if possible, spend time in his company.

Allah ﷻ instructs in the Holy Qur'an:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَكُونُواْ مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ ۝

“O you who believe, fear Allah, and be in the company of the truthful.” (Chapter 9 Verse 119)
